OHIO WATERCOLOR SOCIETY

•ACTIVE MEMBER - All artists whose paintings have been accepted in any TWO (2) juried OWS Shows in the past six years are eligible to apply or reapply for Active Membership. You may reapply as many times as necessary. You do not need to be an Associate Member of OWS to apply for full active membership. The application process happens only once a year. You must submit the following materials before the postmarked deadline:

a)	Four (4) slides or four (4) digital images of your best paintings that have not appeared in any OWS shows. Label the front of each slide with your name, title and image size. Indicate the top of each slide with an arrow pointing up.
b)	a close-up portrait photo of yourself
c)	an artist’s resume
d)	Two stamped self-addressed business size envelopes for the return of (1) your slides (requires two stamps) and (2) photo (which will be returned separately)

All applications and materials must be postmarked on or before May 20th, 2009. All applicants will be notified by letter as to their membership status after the new active members have been selected.

The process to achieve Active membership is:
a)	The submitted slides or digital images are separated and grouped by artist by the Active Membership chair. The names of the artists are kept secret.
b)	The Officers and Trustees of OWS review all slides and digital images submitted.
c)	A vote is then cast by ballot on each group of slides or digital images and the artist of each group that received a majority vote is awarded Active Membership.

New Active members are expected to be present at the OWS Watercolor Ohio 2009 Annual Awards Banquet to receive their membership certificate, OWS pin and have photos taken.

Active Members make up the Board of Trustees & Officers and vote on all Society affairs. Dues are $35.00 annually.

•ASSOCIATE MEMBERS - Any Ohio resident is eligible and is entitled to receive notice of and participate in all OWS activities, receive the newsletter, and one free entry for the annual competition. (non-voting) Dues are $30.00 annually.

•PATRON MEMBERS - Any person, family, business firm or organization whose financial contribution to the Society during the course of any calendar year is $100.00 or more. These funds are directed to the annual gift fund which supports awards, educational funding and the general operating budget of the Society. (non-voting)

•WATERCOLOR ANGELS - Any person, family, business firm or organization whose financial contribution to the Society during the course of any calendar year is $25.00 - $99.00. These funds are directed to the annual gift fund which supports awards, educational funding and the general operating budget of the Society. (non-voting)

•HONORARY MEMBERS (non-voting) - are recommended by the OWS Executive Board because of outstanding contributions either to the Society or Art in general. Active members recommended for Honorary Membership do not lose their membership privileges.

PAYMENT OF DUES
Our year begins October 1 - September 30. Dues paid by October 1 entitle a member to submit one entry free of charge to our annual juried exhibition. Membership for the year will entitle you to receive all mailings, including our quarterly newsletter which contains many interesting and informative articles. It also entitles you to a discount on any classes or workshops offered by OWS and special preview invitations to all OWS events.

All OWS EXHIBITIONS, exhibition catalogs, quarterly newsletters and other programs are funded by membership dues, donations from businesses, the private sector, various foundations, and the Ohio Arts Council, with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans.
