IN MEMORIAM
Jean Wetzler

I met Jean around 1967; she had and ad in our local "Bedford News" for watercolor painting lessons. I had always been interested in painting so I signed up for evening classes once a week. Little did I know she was a member of AWS, NWS, Midwest Watercolor Society, and the Rocky Mountain Watercolor Society. I didn't even know what that meant! I was just amazed at Jean's work. It wasn't the usual sky, land, trees and water; they were there just not in the usual order. That was Jean, a step ahead, beside and around everyone else. What a lucky day when I read that ad. She helped me see things so differently. She was a tough taskmaster, but kind. Over the years we developed a true friendship. She managed to raise a family, be a den mother, baby sit her grandkids and in her later years take care of her husband Bob, who had Alzheimer's. She started a Critique Group at the Toledo Artist's Club which still continues today. On one of our last visit to see Jean her parting remark was "don't forget about me." That is one thing that will never happen. Anyone that has ever met her or saw her do a demonstration, lucky enough to own one of her paintings, or was her friend, will never, ever forget her. This wonderful, outspoken, feisty, stubborn little woman who painted large, expressive, bold quiet slices of life; Jean Wetzler.
